Important update: The Privacy Law Reform will commence from 12 March 2014. This will bring about a range of changes for the marketing industry.
These will include, but are not limited to, the way that direct marketers need to:
- Manage customer and marketing data
- Communicate with prospects in all direct marketing activities
- Consider the definition of “personal information”
We strongly recommend that marketers take the time to understand all of the changes, with particular focus on:
- Australian Privacy Principle 3 — collection of solicited personal information
- Australian Privacy Principle 5 — notification of the collection of personal information
- Australian Privacy Principle 6 — use or disclosure of personal information
- Australian Privacy Principle 7 — direct marketing
- Australian Privacy Principle 8 — cross-border disclosure of personal information
- Australian Privacy Principle 12 — access to personal information
We will endeavour to assist our clients as much as possible with these changes and welcome you to contact us with any questions as to how this might impact upon your planned marketing activities.
